45. Ink Drawing Workshop in Classic Style

Intriguing Ink? Yes, indeed!




I needed to show a big image of this drawing to show how much details we can depict in the small milkweed seedpods.  

We can show all different shades of black with just a small bottle of black ink and a couple of tiny crow quill pen nibs.

I am offering a workshop at Brushwood Center Ryerson Woods, Deerfield.
Two Mondays, Oct 3 & 10, from 10 am - 4 pm.

Botanical Art Exhibition: Heeyoung Kim & Brushwood Botanical Artists 2021 was a remarkable year in many ways. Getting to the final phase of the Covid pandemic (hopefully), we have been cultivating various life styles that suit to our routines as artists fairly successfully. Teaching and learning have been well adapted to the changes, so much so some of us don't even want to go back to physically crowded in-person classes any more.  Surely there are irreplaceable merits in in-person teaching environments, but the merits of remote ones are also too attractive to give up, which gave me no choice but to embrace both.   The annual exhibit is also presented both physically and virtually this year. Paintings & Stories: 1. You think you are done! Well, too early?

                                   Study of Ohio Spiderwort - C Heeyoung Kim 2012 "Start From Finish"  is my experimental watercolor botanical workshop at Chicago Botanic Garden. My idea started from the fact that students can hardly have a chance to see somebody doing final touch. The result: most students think they are done, too early. Students brought in their 'finished painting'(?) to the workshop and tried to improve them. However, the hardest part was critique. We did open critique, but I could see some were not quite open to it. I could gradually convince everyone to see the room to be improved in their paintings. Every week all of us get happier and happier seeing the possibility that we actually can improve our works. The image above is a sample painting of mine.
